A very decent Glenrothes here which has been aged for 8 year in both refill sherry and bourbon hogsheads. It was bottled for the MacPhails Collection by independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail.
The Glenrothes distillery is currently owned by famous English wine merchants Berry Brothers and Rudd. The Vintage Reserve is their staple single malt which offers oodles of spice alongside mixed fruit and some cinnamon.
Part of the new for 2018 Speyside distillery’s Soleo Collection which marks a new chapter in its 150-year history. It’s labelled by age statement rather than vintage and maturation now takes place exclusively in fine Sherry oak casks. The whiskies are smoother and fruitier than in the past but still have that trademark Glenrothes spice.
This is a perfect introduction to single malt for those keen to explore the world of whisky. Lighter and more subtle than much Scotch, this Speyside offers a nose filled with vanilla, homemade shortbread and a hint of orange peel. After 10 years in Sherry casks, the delicate palate is ever so slightly sweet with refreshing lemon peel leading on to a lingering sweet and zesty finish.

Nose: Treacle tart, figs, dates and fruit & nut toblerone with notes of coffee fondant & raspberry compote.
Palate: More fruit & nut chocolate, raspberry truffle bars, mocha fudge all wrapped up in a luxurious mouthfeel.
Finish: Walnut whips, soft centre chocolates and some coconut late on.
10 year old Glenrothes bottled in December 2015 by Douglas Laing, as part of the Old Particular range. The whisky was distilled in 2005 and filled into a single sherry cask. Just 715 bottles were produced, with an alcohol content of 48.4% ABV.
