Freemark Abbey was one of twelve U.S. wineries chosen to compete in “The Judgment of Paris” blind tasting, in 1976. California wines won in every category, catapulting Napa Valley onto the world stage.
Opaque dark ruby describes the colour of this Oakville wine. Blackcurrant and boysenberry notes dominate the aroma, with nuances of dark cherry, cocoa powder, new shoe leather, black pepper and forest floor. The wine has great depth of black fruit flavour, with a strong expression of sweet black cherry and dark plum. This full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon has a smooth entry with well resolved tannins giving it structure yet a relatively soft finish.
The full bodied Grand Vin of the Dominus estate starts with elegant black cherry evolving towards well structured tannins. Early bottling has preserved more fruit character in this vintage. The Bordeaux style blend includes 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Cabernet Franc, 9% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot.
First released by Penfolds in 1957, St Henri is a blend of McLaren Vale, Barossa Valley and Adelaide Hills vineyards, from the Shiraz grape only.
It is matured for 12 months in large 1,460 litre casks that are over 50 years old. This allows the wine to develop, imparting minimal, if any, oak character.
St Henri is rich and plush when young and gains soft, earthy, mocha-like characters as it ages.
