Rhone Valley

The Rhone Valley is a richly diverse wine region. Segregated into North and South, the wines are quite different, the Northern Rhone wines dominated by the Syrah and Viognier grape varieties, producing the dark structured long lived reds of Cote Rotie and Hermitage. The wines further South, are much less monolithic, epitomised by Chateauneuf du Pape where up-to thirteen grape varieties are blended to create these great wines.

2006 Ermitage 'Le Meal' Blanc Chapoutier (Magnum - 1/150cl)

Grapes producing "Le Méal" come from the Méal hillside. This is an old fluvioglacial alluvial deposit soil with large pebbles which contribute to the soil warming. The vines (more than 50 years old) produce very low yields and guarantee high quality. On the palate, this wine is ample and round, with a fine exotic freshness and hints of roasted almonds.
