The Bordeaux blend has been copied with considerable success in many other wine regions, the ultimate compliment. The Left Bank of the Gironde River boasts the great Chateaux of the Medoc and Graves, whilst on the Right Bank, Saint Emilion (arguably the most beautiful commune) and Pomerol. Bordeaux is synonymous with the finest quality, predominantly in red wines though great dry whites are made in the Pessac Leognan, and most wine lovers will strive to taste the sweet white wines of Chateau Yquem and its neighbouring Chateau in Sauternes and Barsac.
It is a truly unique opportunity to taste an ancient and historic vintage, such as this one! Chateau Laffitte Carcasset constructs their Grand Vin from a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot; muscular, full, tannic and delightfully intense. Rich red meat dishes are perfect for this wine to be served alongside!
temperature of 12 °C
This is a round and powerful wine for aging, with subtle tannins. A beautiful garnet red colour and intense, fruit of a well-controlled extraction. Nose of candied red fruit, vanilla and spicy notes. After aeration, notes of blackcurrant and cooked red berries, combining power and suppleness, emerge. These impressions are confirmed in the mouth. Supple and round, the palate is well balanced and structured by firm and persistent tannins on the finish supported by elegant woody and spicy notes.
