Quercus Robur, if you know your Latin, is European oak, and this bottle marks the first in Box’s new series that investigates how oak influences ageing. This Swedish single malt went into first-fill bourbon barrels for 4.1 years before being finished in new Swedish oak barrels for a further 7 months.

Box Distillery’s second international release was Early Days batch 002. It’s a vatting of two-thirds peated and unpeated whisky matured in 130-litre ex-bourbon casks. It’s made from 100% Pilsner malt, which once dominated the beer and whisky industries in the old days. The peated malt used Scottish peat.
Another well-crafted spirit from the folk at Sweden's Box Distillery. It's the last release of their 2nd Step Collection. the whisky was matured using a combination of first-fill bourbon barrels and, more unusually, Hungarian oak.
Another fascinating wine-cask matured whisky from the brilliant Swiss distillery, Langatun, which has experimented with numerous wine finishes and maturations over the years. This particular release was distilled in 2010, before being matured in a Chardonnay cask. The final twist was a lengthy 15-month finishing period in Sauternes casks.
This is another fine release from the excellent Swiss distillery, Langatun. Ever experimenting with unusual casks, this time the whisky, which was distilled in 2011, has been maturing in red wine casks from the Quinta do Zambujeiro vineyard in Portugal (which is Swiss-owned, in case you were wondering about the connection). It was bottled in 2017 at 49.1% ABV.
Distilled in February 2009 and aged in both Chardonnay and sherry casks, Old Deer Classic is a triple distilled single malt from the Langatun distillery is Switzerland. They bottled this in February 2016.

This is the core expression from the King Car distillery in Taiwan. Kavalan Single Malt Whisky offers notes of tropical fruit and subtle spices, on the palate. As you can imagine, the casks also mature much faster where this distillery is based.
This sherry oak edition from the King Car distillery features the same whisky that goes into their sough-after Solist bottlings. This one though, is presented at an ABV of 46%.

Kavalan were the first ever Whisky distillery in Taiwan and in just over a decade have been winning awards and plaudits for their range of single malts.
