Scotch Single Malt Whisky
These are whiskies that have been distilled at one distillery only, aged for at least three years and bottled above 40% abv. No grain whiskies can sit within this character, only those that have been made purely with malted barley. There are six regions where Scotch single malts are produced, these typically define the style and character of the whiskies. Speyside and Highlands are renowned for those rich and fruity styled whiskies, whilst Islay is home to the peat smoke.
One from Glen Glen Garioch here, bottled up by the good ol' folk at Douglas Laing. This Highlander spent 6 years in refill hogshead cask #11083 and was released for their Provenance range.
An unusual release here from Càrn Mòrs Strictly Limited range. For those of you who arent familiar with Croftengea, its the name of peated single malt from Highland-based distillery Loch Lomond. This single cask Croftengea was aged in a hogshead cask for 6 years before being bottled without chill-filtration.

A youthful Ardmore single malt whisky released by Duncan Taylor as part of their Octave series - which means it's been given a finishing period in a tiny octave cask to boost maturation. It's bottled at 52.4% ABV.
Another striking release from the Special Releases series of 2017- the sixteenth bottling of Brora in the iconic series. Just 3,000 bottles were produced, drawn from refill American oak hogsheads which were initially filled in 1982.
From family-owned company Gordon & MacPahil comes this exceptional indie bottling of Glenesk which was distilled in 1980 and bottled in 2014. It was released as part of their Old & Rare range.
One of the early Kilchoman seasonal bottles of single malt to be released by this new distillery on Islay back in 2010 which at the time was the first new distillery on the island in well over a hundred years and still the smallest on Islay. Aged for 3 years in Ex-Bourbon casks (from Buffalo Trace) and a small batch of just 15850 bottles.
The second Original Cask Strength Kilchoman to be released from the Islay farm distillery. This one was aged in quarter casks before being bottled at 56.9% ABV. Notes of cooked fruit and intense peat smoke.
A limited edition bottling from Douglas Laing's Provenance range, released to celebrate the Islay festival of music and whisky, aka Fèis Ìle 2017! It was aged for 6 years in a single cask from November 2010 to April 2017.
An indie Caol Ila from our friends at Douglas Laing. This Islay single malt Scotch spent 5 years in a refill hogshead (from December 2010 to March 2016) and was bottled for their Provenance range of whiskies.
Port Ellen of this age tends to make most whisky collectors weak at the knees, so you'd better snap it up. Bottled for Douglas Laing's Xtra Old Particular range, it was distilled in 1982, matured in a single refill hogshead cask for 34 years...
Independently bottled single malt Scotch whisky from the now-sadly closed distillery of Port Ellen. It was distilled on the Island of Islay in 1982 and bottled in August 2016 by Douglas Laing. After 33 years of maturation in cask #11120, there was a small outturn of just 198 bottles produced.
A heavily-sherried bottling of 33-year-old Port Ellen for the Old & Rare Platinum Selection by Hunter Laing. Just 108 of these were filled from the single sherry butt, once housed in what is now the lost distillery on Islay - Port Ellen.
A very well-aged single cask Bowmore distilled on the Isle of Islay in 1982 and matured for over three decades. It was released in 2014 by independent bottlers Wemyss Malts and titled Loch Indaal Catch to best describe the character of the whisky. 165 bottles were filled from the hogshead cask.
Released by Duncan Taylor as part of the Tantalus range, this is quite something from the Bowmore distillery. A 31 year old single malt Scotch whisky presented in a hand crafted case, made from the cask itself that matured this exact Spirit! Independent bottlers Duncan Taylor have done a fine job with the Tantalus bottlings.

A closed distillery bottling from Indie bottlers Douglas Laing. This 24 year old from St Magdelene was distilled at the Lowland site in 1982 and was eventually bottled for the Old Malt Cask range at 50% ABV.
A youthful Mortlach aged in a single refill hogshead and bottled up for the Hepburns Choice range by Langside Distillers. An enjoyable whisky from the Speyside region. Just 404 bottles were drawn from the cask.
A 6-year-old Glentauchers from Càrn Mòr which was filled into a single sherry Puncheon cask in 2010. After maturation was complete, in 2016, it was bottled for the Strictly Limited label without chill filtration neither added colouring. The outturn was 913 bottles.
Benromach were one of the first (in modern times at least) distilleries to produce an organic spirit, and the first single malt hit markets in 2006. This is the latest vintage from 2010, and the 2017 bottling has been aged in virgin oak - so expect a vibrant dram.
BenRiach is popular among whisky fans, and this is a particularly interesting from fan-favourite indie Douglas Laing. Their Provenance range showcases some youthful whiskies, and this one is a 6 year old example of Benriach distilled in December 2010 and matured in a hogshead.
The 5th release of the uber provenance Bruichladdich Islay barley from unpeated Optic and Oxbridge barley. The 2010 was matured in mainly 1st fill Ex-Bourbon barrels with some exotic French wine casks from Rivesaltes, Jurancon and Banyuls also used to add complexity and bottled at 50% ABV at natural colour and non chill filtered.
A peated version of Loch Lomond that is often known as "Croftengea" the most heavily peated single malt distilled at the distillery. Independently bottled by Morrison & Mackay as part of their Carn Mor "Strictly Limited" range of small batch releases. An 8 year old matured in just two hogshead casks and only 800 bottles released at natural colour and non chill filtered.
A rare 30 year old single malt from the long lost Highland distillery of Glen Mhor that was distilled in 1980 and bottled in 2011 by Gordon & Macphail. Matured in refill Sherry casks and bottled at 43% ABV.
