Irish Single Malt Whiskey Irish single malt is similar to Scotch single malt in the way that both have to be made from a mash containing nothing but malted barley. They must be aged for at least three years in cask and the final product must come from one distillery, not a blend of distilleries. Apart from this there is obviously many differences between the two.
