Like Champagne if this drink wasn't produced from that particular region in this case the Cognac region in France, it would be named Brandy or Armagnac. Like wine regions, Cognac has sub-regions in which they grow the grapes and these are named petit Champagne, Fine Champagne and Grande Champagne - the most prestigious. Once the wine is made by pressing the grapes that have previously been harvested, its then distilled twice unlike Armagnac known for its method of single distillation. Once the spirit is produced it is then filled into oak barrels to age for a minimum of two years.
