The Morgeot 1er Cru is Chassagne's wine growing hillside’s largest 1er Cru and covers no less than 21 different "lieu-dits” which are sometimes bottled individually and sometimes grouped together under the Morgeot appellation.
The Chardonnay for Bruno Colin's Chassagne Montrachet 1er Morgeot is grown on vines that date back to 1963 in the Francemont "lieu-dits" on clay-limestone soils. Post vinification the juice is aged for 12 months in oak barrels (25% new oak) and 6 months in concrete vats. This wine is characterised by finesse. In youth it is reserved but with bottles age this wine develops a wonderful richness, underpinned by a fresh, mineral structure. 2017 is a knockout.
The 1er Cru vineyard of Chassagne Montrachet Les Chaumees borders Saint Aubin and lies just above another Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Les Vergers.
