2002 Mouton Rothschild 1er Cru Pauillac (Case - 12/75cl)
2002 was hot and dry, drought conditions severely reducing the harvest. The surviving grapes were ripe and concentrated and became an intense and powerful wine. The 2002 blend is 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. Every vintage of Chateau Mouton Rothschild carries a unique label, created by a celebrated artist from its time. The 2002 label was illustrated by the Russian conceptualist artist, Ilya Kabakov. Kabakov is perhaps most famous for his installation art, intriguing and provocative pieces on large and small scales, which like most of his work, possess observations on the Soviet Union. For the label, Ilya chose to draw a long tunnel with walls like feathered wings. It was titled OKHO, meaning window in Russian, with the glass of the bottle being the pane between our world and the heavenly.
