1998 Mouton Rothschild 1er Cru Pauillac (Bottle - 1/75cl)
Not many bottles were made of this outstanding wine, but they are drinking fabulously well and should do so for some years yet! 1998 at Chateau Mouton Rothschild was a winemakers vintage; imperfect weather conditions forced stricter selection and careful blending of batches to create a wine worthy of the estate! The blend in the 98 is 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc. Every vintage of Chateau Mouton Rothschild carries a unique label, created by a celebrated artist from its time. For the 1998 vintage, the Mexican artist, Rufino Tamayo, agreed to illustrate the label. Tamayo was known for weaving his native influences with those of modern artistic movements such as cubism and surrealism. Sadly, Tamayo passed away with a heart attack in 1991 before he was able to complete his own design. Honouring Tamayos agreement, his family offered a painting of a Brindis or a toast under a setting sun.
