| 2004 BORDEAUX - now in bottle |
| On Wednesday last week the Royal Opera House, once again, hosted this year's Union des Grand Crus Tasting, which featured the 2004 Vintage now in bottle. |

| The 2004 vintage has evolved along classical lines as expected. The fruit in most is ample and in the best wines is charming even lush. Structurewise, 2004 has never been in doubt, there is certainly longuevity, most will outlive their 2003 counterparts, though will ultimately fade in the wake of the 2005's. Several years of cellaring will be required to reveal the minerality and charm underneath. |

| The Right bank wines showed very well at least the equal of the left bank; in recent years, often, real quality has been restricted predominantly to the late ripening Cabernet dominated wine(as in 2002 and 2003) of the Medoc. As previously predicted the wines of Pomerol stand out as excellent examples in a very good rather than great vintage. St. Emilon also showed one or too special wines. The Medoc proved to be exciting too, with generally good wines with one or two fine efforts. |
