2007 VINTAGE PORT CASE PRICES
  per CASE
 TAYLOR’S £195
A classic baby Vintage Port nose of blackberry, currant and a little bit of green lemon leaf. Full-bodied and medium sweet. There's a solid core of ripe fruit and powerful tannins, with grip. The real deal.  94-97/100 James Suckling/The Wine Spectator

Serious stuff – just the merest hint of cheesiness but real complexity and almost rough tannins – hurly burly – at this stage. Very vibrant and positive with great length. This wine certainly doesn’t follow any formula. Dry – yes, porty – finish. Grown up stuff. Sophisticated and a bit wild. - 18 + Jancis Robinson
 FONSECA £185
Cooked raspberry, with hints of lemon peel and leaf. Full-bodied and medium sweet, with a beautiful density and a sweet fruity and tannic aftertaste. Balanced yet muscular. A little disappointing, but clearly outstanding. 92-95/100 James Suckling/The Wine Spectator

Looks much more evolved and indeed smells much more open than one might expect. Very luscious, with a hint of cough medicine and masses of ripe fruit, though no specious sweetness. Lots of tannin on the finish. I suspect if I were tasting this blind I might not be quite so indulgent and might wonder about what is tying everything together in the middle. Very dry finish, very open, loose start. Later: But I went back after an hour or so and can see that this is a very dramatic wine, not playing safe at all. Very tannic finish. - 18 Jancis Robinson
 GRAHAM’S £195
Beautiful elegant nose, aagin the palate is polished, concentration here for sure, very full fat and generous, big juicy and round. Tasted blind. 94/100 Will Gardener

Great nose of crushed blackberry, currant and grape skin. Intense. Full-bodied, dense and beautiful, with big, polished tannins and a long, long finish. Very sweet. This is a superb young vintage Port. Could match or better the fabulous 2000 Graham  96-99/100 James Suckling/The Wine Spectator
 DOW’S £175
This is almost black, very intense on the nose, tight, sweet fruit light but fruity, didn’t really open up on the palate as expected. Not singing for me on first impression. Tasted blind. 91/100 Will Gardener
 WARRE’S £175
Quite peppery on the nose, round cool fruit, solid concentrated block, not so open or characterful as some, leaner, solid structure, finesse, maybe Warre. Tasted blind. Very good evolutuion ahead. 93/100 Will Gardener
 QUINTA DO VESUVIO   £175
Quite a subtle nose, beautiful overtones, cool fruit, very pre, rich and unctuous, I LIKE THIS…tasted blind, but spotted the Vesuvio style, very silky and high toned, intense with great finesse. 95/100 Will Gardener
 CROFT £150
Very pretty aromas of blackberry and dark chocolate, with hints of green leaf. Excellent nose. Medium- to full-bodied, with medium chewy tannins and a fresh finish. Medium sweet. Needs a little more grip on the palate and finish. A little disappointing. 89-92 James Suckling /The Wine Spectator.
 GOULD CAMPBELL £125
Dark in color. Very perfumed, with blackberry and flowers. Full-bodied and very dense, yet balanced and superrefined. Very sweet. Long and intense. There's wonderful harmony in this young Vintage Port. 89-92 James Suckling /The Wine Spectator.
 SMITH WOODHOUSE £130
Firm smoky and liquorice with a hint of tar. Serious stuff. Nice fresh fruit and really rather luscious.. Exciting tingle on the palate. There’s a great beginning, middle and end to this wine. Zesty but rewarding, Bravo! Maybe not for the very long term but great balance for the medium term. - 18/20 Jancis Robinson
 QUINTA DO NOVAL £200
Impressive aromas of crushed blackberry, mineral and dried flowers. Intense and deep. Full-bodied, very sweet and dense on the palate, with big, round tannins and a long finish.  94-97/100 James Suckling /The Wine Spectator.
 PORTAL £135
Beefy nose, opening uo well, intense blackberry. This is very concentrated and powerful for me, poloished and spicy with great length, grainy tannins, will be long lived. Very fine for the vintage. 96/100 Will Gardener

Very dark purple. Scented and complete. Very sweet start – extremely flattering. Round and then a dry finish with lots of drama on the mid palate. Pretty damn flashy! Though not as deep flavoured and complex as some.- 17/20 Jancis Robinson

2007 Vintage Report

The 2007 growing season was preceded by a wet winter that helped replenish the water reserves after four hot, dry years. It continued into 2007 with lower than average temperatures, combined with several periods of rain during the spring and early summer. Unlike the previous four years, there was no significant heat wave during the summer months.

Frequent rainfall caused the biggest concern with outbreaks of mildew demanding greater care in the treatment of vines. These climatic conditions however provided a greater balance between water requirements and the vines exposure to heat. The canopies were exceptionally healthy for complete and balanced ripening of the grapes from the end of August forwards.

The first two weeks of September saw a constant daily temperature between 35C – 38C which was fundamental to advance the ripening of the sugars and phenolics following a relatively cool growing season. Picking started at The Fladgate Partnership quintas around 20 September in warm conditions. This assisted balanced fermentations offering plenty of time to extract good colour and flavour from the skins without reaching excessive temperatures.

Heavy rains on 2 October were a cause for alarm for the winemaking team but it proved only to be 24 hour storm with bright weather returning on 3rd and remained until all the grapes were harvested. All grape varieties performed well, particularly Touriga Francesa which was above average in quality – an important ingredient in Vintage Port providing structure, intensity and complex scented aromas
