A variation of the traditional Sambuca dei Cesari Luxardo. It is aromatised with liquorice, with a production recipe entailing several levels of successive infusions to blend the different ingredients. The predominant taste is star anise. However, it is combined with a new velvety sensation on the palate, with light spicy hints of cardamom and coriander, and an after-taste where the typical digestive aromas of liquorice dominate. It is neither an ordinary liquorice digestivo, nor a commonplace coffee-sambuca.
Serving suggestions: Neat and chilled, On the rocks, In coffee, In cocktails and Over vanilla ice-cream.
The Luxardo firm was founded by Girolamo Luxardo in 1821 in Zara, a port city on the Dalmatian coast. Maraschino was the first product to be produced, which after 8 years of research and perfecting the product, an exclusive "privilege" from the Emperor of Austria was obtained. Due to the bombings of the Second World War, it appeared that after more than a century of activity, the Luxardo firm was destined to disappear. The only brother to survive was Giorgio Luxardo. He had the courage and vision to rebuild the distillery in the Veneto region of Italy, together with the young fifth generation Nicolò. It is this distillery that is still Luxardo's present plant. The sixth generation of the family is today active in the company, manufacturing Maraschino which made their name known world wide, as well as a full line of classic Italian liqueurs such as Sambuca, Amaretto, Grappa, Limoncello, Passione Nera.
