El Dorado 21 year old scored the highest mark ever to be awarded to a rum (98/100) at the 2007 Beverage Tasting Institute of Chicago & has won ‘Best in Class’ at the 2006, 2007 International Wine & Spirit Competition alongside a Gold Medal at the International Rum Festival in Canada.
The world famous El Dorado Rums are produced from the Diamond distillery on the East Bank of the county of Demerara, Guyana. The story of Demerara Distillers Limited begins in 1670 with the amalgamation of local sugar cane producers under the guidance of early European explorers.
Having the only distillery in the region to survive to the present day, DDL is also committed to preserving age-old production techniques and operates the only remaining wooden Coffey still in the world as well as the only wooden pot stills – all of which contribute to the distinctive & unique flavour profiles of the rums in the El Dorado stable.
All El Dorado Rums are produced strictly from local sugar cane, and aged in small American oak casks before blending to perfection by the master distiller. The rums are left to marry for at least 3 months ensuring a rich development of flavours & impressive complexity.
The highly decorated 21 year old rum is a blend of three stills – a column still, the world’s only wooden Coffey still & a unique wooden pot still.
Coppery colour with aromas of rich mocha, pipe tobacco, toffee and brown spice. Rich and satiny, a vibrant entry leads to a dry-yet-fruity full body of toffee, coffee and brown spice. Finishes with a seemingly endless, sweet, nutty fade with evolving layers of tobacco, chocolate and spice.
After 21 years in the making this is a rum that deserves time to be savoured.
