Masataka Taketsuru (the father of Japanese whisky) was the founder of the Nikka company. Yoichi distillery is the jewel in their crown. This 10 year old Yoichi, the standard bottling, was voted "best of the best" by Whisky Magazine in 2001, thus signalling the elevation of Japanese whisky to a truly international level. This single malt is the result of the vatting of first-fill hogsheads, assembled at the distillery from bourbon barrels.

Colour: amber with highlights of old gold.
Nose: firm. Marked by by burnt wood and spices (pepper). Fruity (apple and apricot), against a background of malted barley and minty freshness.
Palate: round and rich in vanilla in notes. Heady flowers (iris and lavender). A perfectly integrated woody character transcends the fruitiness (apricot and raisins).
Finish: long and complex, revealing a remarkable balance between woody, floral and fruity notes.
