Quarter casks used to be a fairly common sight in the Glenfarclas warehouses, however now very few are left.

This exclusive bottling, released in early 2013, combines 10 of the last remaining quarter casks, of which the youngest was 25 years old. Bottled at cask strength of 42.4% vol, the 10 casks only yielded 900 bottles, which are offered in selected markets worldwide.

Colour: rich well used copper.
Nose: sweet, Fresh honey comb, sherry prominent but not over powering. A very well balanced nose. No oak or age, a very youthful 25 year old.
Taste: a dark bitter chocolate, light ginger, caramel and treacle pudding topped with vanilla custard. An every changing taste bringing in all the quarter casks that were used to make this delightful whisky.
Finish: long, fresh, with Granny Smith apples coming forth.

Quarter casks are so called as they contain a quarter of the volume of a traditional sherry butt, approximately 125 litres.

Smaller casks mean more of the spirit is in contact with the wood - the contents therefore mature faster, but also lose more to the ‘angel’s share’ than larger hogsheads (250L) or butts (500L).
