Suntory’s founder Shinjiro Torii used copper pot stills to build Japan’s first malt whisky distillery in the Vale of Yamazaki in 1923. The site provides pure waters, diversity of climate and high humidity - the ideal environment for the maturation of good whisky.
"One of the most sophisticated Yamazaki noses of them all, somehow combining an ancient Kentucky Bourbon, oaky depth with rich plum pudding, an element of old pot still Port Morant Demarara rum and the most distant smoke. There is no dominance and no beginning nor end: just perfect harmony….hints of liquorice and burnt raisin balance beautifully with the thick oak and powering malt…indisputably brilliant whisky for all its obvious age"
Casks: Spanish sherry casks and American wood
Colour: Copper Gold
Nose: Richness of sherry and raisins, dark rich maraschino cherries and coffee cream chocolate.
Palate: Dark chocolate, rum and raisin toffee and dark coffee beans.
Body: Full.
Finish: Long, rich and dark.
