Information About Tapanappa

In late 2001 after the sale of the company they founded (Petaluma), the Croser family and Champagne Bolinger made a pact to begin again. Soon after, the Cazes family, owners of Chateau Lynch Bages agreed to join the partnership and the Koppamura vineyard (later renamed the Whalebone Vineyard) was purchased. Now with three plots; the Whalebone Vineyard, the Tiers Vineyard and a plot in the Fleurieu Peninsula, Tapanappa are synonymous with top quality wines, their mission being; " to maximise the quality of the wine from these three "distinguished site" vineyards, regardless of cost, that also implies producing only tiny quantities of wine".

Producer's Notes

Medium colour intensity and is cerise in hue. The aromas are initially delicate and ethereal hinting at roses and their freshly cut stalks. More complex aromas emerge of dark chocolate and mocha and preserved cherries with a hint of anise. The flavours are sweet spicy and delicate and are poised against the tannin and acid in a savoury and linear structure. The alcohol remains unnoticed against the delicate but exotic water born flavours, the significant tannins and acid, beyond which the flavours are persistent.

The World of Fine Wine

Deep, though clear and red-black in colour. Warm, sweet, and soft aromas – more blackberry than black cherry (though a bit of both), and with some secondary complexities. Virginia tobacco, freighted spice. Open your nose to the possibilities, and it is extremely attractive, though not perhaps what classicists would look for. The palate is soft, open, long; initially fleshy, and later rather dryer; more red fruit here than the black fruit that dominated the aromatic spectrum. Very slightly homogenous and uneventful, with some brimming alcoholic warmth at the end.
