The vineyards for this wine are located in the Irpinian hills of Campania, one of Italy’s most exciting wine producing areas - After destemming and crushing, maceration took place for 20 days at a temperature of up to 26°C. Fermentation followed and then 10% of the wine was aged in American oak barriques and the rest in temperature controlled stainless steel for 10 months.
Vesevo is located in the Campania, a region renowned for its wine-making tradition. Thousands of years ago the Campania was hit by the eruption of Mount Vesuvio. It was this that led people to believe that local cultivation was over. However this was not the case, as the lava eventually crumbled and gradually turned into very fertile land that was rich in minerals, and fundamental for the growing of wine grapes of unique complexity and finesse. To pay homage to Mount Vesuvio, Vesevo decided to name their company after the ancient name of the volcano. Now, modern technology and wine-making expertise enable Vesevo to produce wines that embody the best interpretation of thousands of years of wine-making tradition.
Deep, dark crimson in colour with a powerful perfume of chocolate, mocha and ripe black cherries. Rich, intense and savoury on the palate, with good balance between solid, chunky fruit characters, ripe, supple tannins and a long, smoky, chocolate finish.
Made from the Aglianico grape variety this great value red shows wonderful dense rich blackcurrant fruit, smoky and minty nuances with a touch of eucalyptus. Though full bodied it is not at all heavy and would work very well with full flavoured cheeses and red meat dishes.
