The Pinot Grigio grapes that make up this wine are grown on guyot systems. Located in the municipality of Montagna, the vines are from half way up to high hills between 350 - 750 metres. The soil is deep and rich with a high content of clay and limestone, which comes from the surrounding mountain erosion. Fermentation occurs in steel tanks and small oak casks. After this the wine is left to age for roughly four months on its lees. This period allows the wine to build up body, depth and structure. An ideal accompaniment to pasta, vegatable dishes and grilled white meat.
Franz Haas has seven generations of winemakers. A family run estate established in 1880, handed down through the generations to the first born son Franz Haas. Through the years, due to its owners and employees, the estate has grown into an innovative winery. The estate holds 50 hectates of vineyards of which 28 are estate grown or rented. The Franz Haas philosophy and goal is; "to produce quality wines that are the distinct expression of our terroir, with good aging potential and marked personality". http://www.franz-haas.com/franzhaas.html
Deep straw-yellow in colour, with a fragrant floral bouquet with notes of sage, hay, almonds and sandalwood. After some time in bottle notes of honey develop. On the palate this wine is fresh and full-bodied with great finesse and elegance.
