This vintage of Bellavista's Gran Cuvee is created from 72% Chardonnay and 28% Pinot Nero, with 30% of the blend matured for seven months in oak to add complexity without impacting the fruit. Aromas of buttery nutty pastry, ripe apples and pears and citrus are easily acquired, with a crisp, mineral texture on the palate and a long creamy finish. Highly enjoyable!
It used to be that the only name in Italian sparking wine was Prosecco; attractively priced, refreshing and fruity expressions of the Glera grape. However, attention is turning towards Italy's premier sparkling wine region, Franciacorta. This DOCG classified area is located just under 70 kilometres east of Milan and crafts exquisite Champagne styled wines; traditional method sparkling wines created from Chardonnay, Pinot Nero and Pinot Bianco.
Bellavista represents 200 hectares of the finest vineyards in within the Franciacorta DOCG. The stoney soils filling this natural amphitheatre are ideal for growing Chardonnay and Pinot Nero!
The Bellavista estate was founded in 1970; the land was purchased by Vittorio Moretti, who saw winemaking as a hobby and consumed the wine with friends. This changed in 1981 when he met a young winemaker known as Mattia Vezzola who would convert the estate into one of the leading producers of Franciacorta sparkling wine.
30% of all the wines are matured in oak barrels, giving subtle oak character, and undergo secondary fermentation in the bottle they are sold in!
