Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is only produced during exceptional years and still very few grapes will pass through the gauntlet and into this wine. 100% Sangiovese is initially fermented for 30 days, followed by carefully controlled malolactic fermentation before a 42 month aging period in Slovenian and French oak. Including bottle aging, this wine is kept for 50 months before entering the market.
Fully mature and ready to drink, but will keep for several more years yet!
In 1964 Mauro Brunelli and Anna Savini, owners of the Brunelli Estate, moved to Martoccia a small farm of about three hectares, located in Montalcino. In 1998, together with only child Luca, Mauro and Anna bought more land where they planted vines. Now, the Brunelli Estate covers 15 hectares of land of which 5 are registered as Brunello di Montalcino D.O.C.G. while olive groves and forest cover the remainder of the property. Their love of the land and respect for tradition is a driving force behind the enthusiasm of the Brunelli family who live and work in this field.
Tasted blind. Lustrous mid ruby with orange tinges. Closed and with a hint of leather. Supple, generous and yet not heavy. Strawberry and tangy cherry fruit and crunchy tannins on a long finish. Surprisingly elegant for this hot vintage.
