The grapes for the A. D. Coutelas Cuvee 1809 come for 40 year old vines and it is comprised of 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir from the slopes of Villers sous Chatillon and the neighbouring villages. Fermented entirely in small oak barrels and composed of selections from the coeur de cuvée (the heart of the pressing - the juice with the most structure and complexity), this is a tremendously individual small grower Champagne.
Deeply anchored in their ancestral roots, and passionately attached to their land, the Coutelas family cultivate their vines on the slopes around Villers sous Chatillon and the neighbouring villages, using sustainable viticulture. The diversity of the terroirs and the age of the vines combine to enrich the blends. In particular, vines that are nearly 60 years old are used in the creation of the cuvées spéciales. Small grower Champagnes are often surprising in their appeal, the Blanc de Blancs, Vintage and 1809 Cuvees are all individually remarkable wines.
