The Brut NV contains two grape varieties: 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay. This results in a refreshing champagne, with floral notes combined with hints of citrus fruits on the palate - the ideal aperitif.
We have been importers of these fine Champagnes since the 1980's, well established as favourites amongst our client base. Small grower Champagnes are becoming more popular offering great quality and individuality over the famous Grand Marques Maisons of Reims and Epernay.
The Gremillet family's estate is found in in the village of Balnot-Sur -Laignes in the Aube department. They make a range of styles including the rounded Pinot Noir dominated Gremillet Brut Selection, the very popular Brut Rose and the very fine Cuvee des Dames, a Blanc de Blancs pure Chardonnay blend which ages very well and expresses gorgeous Brioche and honeyed flavours.
One of our (and our customers’) favourite champagnes, JM Gremillet have won the 2007 IWSC (International Wine and Spirit Competition) Champagne (Non Vintage) Trophy and now the 2009 IWSC Gold Medal. Sponsored by the Institut Oenologique de Champagne, the Trophy was awarded for the Champagne Gremillet Brut Seléction NV - Gremillet's standard cuvée, a blend of 70% Pinot Noir & 30% Chardonnay, released after 24 months in bottle. This is what the judges had to say: 'Bright pale yellow with a fine mousse. Attractive lemony nose with some elegance. A light, fresh lemony palate with a long finish. Very attractive. Champagne Gremillet is an independent family business from the Aube in the Champagne region, having 25 hectares of vines on steep, south-facing slopes in Balnot sur Laignes, near Troyes. Jean-Christophe Gremillet took over from his father five years ago, investing heavily in the business and has applied his great skills in tasting and blending. Champagne Gremillet deserve particular respect for having fought off competition from many of the larger Champagne growers to win this competition. It is a tribute to their skill and their blend of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay that is kept in the bottle for two years before release that this is only the latest in a line of awards that Gremillet have won. Santé!
