Produced from grapes grown in the Clos de la Bussiere Premier Cru vineyard, just outside the village of Morey-Saint-Denis, this wine stands for elegance and longevity. We anticipate this to be drinking well for another decade.
By becoming the husband of Genevieve Quanquin in 1924, Georges Roumier was given the reins to the Quanquin family vineyards which he rapidly began expanding upon. Using a traditional French arrangement of 'metayage', Roumier would be given control of another person's vineyard, without buying, it in exchange for a portion of the crop.
Now in the hands of Christophe Roumier, Georges' grandson, the domaine's wines are highly renowned and in great demand!
Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Morey St Denis 1er Cru Clos de la Bussière from Christophe Roumier from has a brisk and lively bouquet with briary, blackberry and sous-bois notes, detailed and precise with subtle use of oak that feels discrete, yet gives the aromas lift. The palate is medium-bodied with lithe, slightly soft tannin. There is just the right amount of dryness here, but it needed just a little more backbone and drive towards the finish. Though not as stellar as it showed from barrel, I suspect this will find its mojo with a few more years in bottle.
