Information About Robert Groffier
The history of the domaine now extends over four generations. Robert was joined in 2005 by Nicolas, who has been largely responsible for helping the domaine achieve what The Wine Advocate calls “superstar statusˮ.

Nicolas insists that everything he does is a continuation of the family tradition: “My number one objective is to preserve our appellations and the skills that have been passed down in our family from generation to generation. I adapt to the vintage. In 2009 I intervened very little, whereas in 2013 and 2014 there was major work to be done on the vines in order to try and achieve excellent results. We always try to produce the best wine with what the vintage gives us.”

The Groffiers live in the village of Morey-Saint-Denis. Most of their parcels are located in Gevrey-Chambertin and above all Chambolle-Musigny, where they own most of the famous Premier Cru Les Amoureuses, which they produce to an admirable standard.
The wines have a marked family resemblance, they are deep and colourful, but are characterised by a sensuality and a finesse that make them very alluring.

The 2014 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru les Sentiers, from 80-year-old vines includes 80% whole bunch fruit and 50% new oak, would be my pick of the Premier Crus. Nevertheless, it has a more introverted bouquet: blackberry, mulberry and cassis scents, the whole bunch lending freshness and underlying sous-bois aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with svelte and supple tannin, nicely focused and showing the pedigree of this somewhat underestimated vineyard towards the very harmonious, lightly spiced, blood-orange infused finish. This comes recommended.
