From the sister vineyard of Julienas 'Roche Bleue' comes wine from slightly older Gamay vines, averaging 50 years. Carrying aromas peony and violet flowers this wine is a perfect accompaniament to chicken in wine or cream sauces.
The Perrachon family are significant in Beaujolais Village of Julienas, going way back, first mentionned in 1601. They are now specialists covering several well known grand cru villages. Laurent Perachon respects the traditions of Beaujolais production, with a modern approach. Low yields, old vines, harvesting by hands. the results speak for themselves, we were very impressed, I am sure you will be too.
The 2015 Julienas (Domaine des Mouilles) was aged for 9-12 months in oak foudres. It has a tightly wound blackberry and raspberry-scented bouquet with touches of violet. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannin, quite structured and maybe just macerated a day too long? Give this a couple of years in bottle because there is good substance here, but it needs to mellow and find more elegance.
Brilliant ruby-red. Bright red fruit and floral scents are complicated by suggestions of white pepper and allspice. Silky and seamless on the palate, offering juicy raspberry and bitter cherry flavors that flesh out and become sweeter on the back half. Suave and open-knit, delivering strong closing thrust and just a hint of supple tannins that add shape and gentle grip.
