Bruno Colin's nomination from the La Boudriotte Premier Cru is a delicious balance between finesse and power, carrying aromas of fruit and blossoms, with mineral notes on the palate. This vineyard site is technically located within the Morgeot Premier Cru and has the option to claim either name. This is ready to drink and will likely develop a little further over the next few years!
Bruno Colin's first solo vintage was 2004. A fourth generation viticulturalist he previously ran his father's domaine, Domaine Michel Colin with his brother Philippe. We discoverd the quality of these wines in 2012 with the great 2010 vintage. The wines are stylistically elegant with bold minerality, and have vaulted Bruno Colin into an internationally renowned Domaine at the forefront of Chassagne Montrachet.
The 2013 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Boudriotte has more mineralité and delineation than the Morgeot '13 on the nose at the moment – the terroir coming through nice ‘n' strong here. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity with nice build in the mouth, but it seems to taper dramatically on the finish, leaving you wanting more. Great start, but it dips before the finish line. Let’s see how this is in bottle.
Once again there is a subtle but not invisible touch of matchstick character to the otherwise fresh and restrained aromas of lemon zest, orange peel, white flowers and pear that are trimmed in a background application of wood. Like the Morgeot there is fine volume to the medium weight flavors that possess a slightly finer mouth feel but retain good power that manifests itself on the balanced, complex and strikingly persistent finish. This is a really lovely effort in every respect and one that should amply repay mid-term keeping.
