Area under vine: 0.4221 hectares (9.86 ouvrées). Sun exposure: South-east facing. Soil: The soil contains limestone and clay, and is very stony. Feusselottes means "little holes". The soil is shallow, which accounts for the wine's mineral aftertaste. Grape variety: 100% Pinot Noir. Fermentation: The grapes are hand picked into small crates, sorted in the vat room and 100% destemmed. Cold fermentation for 7 days is followed by temperature-controlled alcoholic fermentation with two pigeages (punching the cap) a day and maceration for 21 days. Barrel-ageing: Aged on the lees in oak barrels (30% new) for 15 months, with late-occurring, natural malolactic fermentation. Neither fined nor filtered. Racked and bottled by gravity flow.
The history of Domaine de la Pousse D'Or is truly ancient and can be traced back to the twelth century. Concentrated in the village of Volnay until recently, the new owner since 1997, Patrick Landanger, has enhanced the identity of the domaine with the purchase of several quality plots including vineyards in Puligny Caillerets, Clos de La Roche and Domaine Moine in Chambolle Musigny.
A marked bouquet of red fruit and wild strawberries in its youth. This climat can be relied on for elegance and finesse. A wonderful, and highly typical Chambolle-Musigny.
A similar if more elegant nose precedes rich yet racy and beautifully well-delineated middle weight flavors that are supported by very fine-grained tannins and a subtle mineral element on the vibrant and persistent finish. This is a very sophisticated effort that is delicious but a bit one-dimensional at present though the underlying material is such that this could very well change with cellar time. Drink 2018+.
