Chateau Reynon is one of the best known estates in the Premieres Cotes appellation. This notariety extends to its owners the Dubordieu family, who are amongst the most respected in the region.
Chateau Reynon Rouge 2009 (quoted as the best Reynon Rouge ever by wine critic Stephen Tanzer), is a hedonistic treat! Comprised of 80% merlot, 10% cabernet sauvignon and 10% petit verdot, this is a wine that offers a real intensity and vibrance. Fantastic value for money.
Domaine Denis Dubourdieu represents five estates across the Bordeaux region. Their approach to viticulture is to treat the vineyards like a family garden; neat and orderly, but avoiding major interference in the growth of the vines and refusing artificial fertilisers and pesticides. To reduce the impact of their carbon footprint, the Dubourdieu family manages large forested areas!
The first of these are Chateau Doisy-Daene and Chateau Cantegril in the Sauternes AOC. The focus at these estates is naturally their botrytised sweet white wines, crafted primarily from Semillon, with a touch of Sauvignon Blanc to give lift and balancing acidity.
In the Graves AOC we fine Clos Floridene and Chateau Haura. These estates create classic left-bank Bordeaux reds, demonstrating a Cabernet Sauvignon dominance in their vineyards, but also some quite delicious Bordeaux Blanc!
Lastly, in the Cadillac AOC is Chateau Reynon. Almost two thirds of this estate is devoted to producing Merlot focused red wines and the remainder leans towards Sauvignon Blanc based white. Interestingly, on occasion, the white vines are affected by noble rot and in these years a small quantity of sweet white wine is created at this estate.
(80% merlot, 10% cabernet sauvignon and 10% petit verdot) Ruby-purple. Perfumed aromas of fresh blackcurrant, minerals and mint. Suave, fine-grained and vibrant, with a stony mineral quality framing the vibrant black fruit and cedar flavors. Finishes classy and long, with chewy but ripe tannins, very good energy and noteworthy verve. Since 2008, this wine is made using only the grapes grown on the property's clay-and-limestone parcels, while owner Denis Dubourdieu uses the grapes grown on sandier plots in other wines. The best Reynon rouge ever.
