Chateau Lilian Ladouys is located in Saint-Estèphe. The vineyards span 40ha on gravel rich soils and well-drained slopes which overlook the Gironde. Plantings consist of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc.

Chateau Lilian Ladouys 2009 is a really fine wine, perhaps the greatest the Chateau has produced to date. An N&P favourite.
Information About Chateau Lilian Ladouys

Chateau Lilian Ladouys first appeared on Nickolls & Perks' radar back in 1989, when the back to back vintage successes, of the 1989 and 1990 caused quite a stir receiving great praise from the American wine guru, Robert Parker.  Recent vintages, 2009 & 2010 have also hit the headlines with great reviews from Jancis Robinson, The Wine Spectator and Decanter Magazine. The clayey northern medoc soil is planted with 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, the balance of Merlot with 5% Cabernet Franc. Recently acquired by the wealthy Loronzetti Family this is an estate to watch.

Tasting Date : 01 February 2012

Elegant, with loads of black currant fruit, cherries and dusty, loamy soil notes as well as hints of tobacco leaf, spice box and cedar, it is a medium to full-bodied, nicely textured, fleshy wine that should drink nicely for 10-15+ years.

This is the best wine I have ever tasted from this property, which has gone through many changes and frequent listless, uninspiring performances. The change to a better class of St.-Estephe was started by the late Vincent Mulliez, who passed away tragically last year, but who got things started by reducing yields, cleaning up the place, eliminating the TCA that had tainted so many wines in the past, and going with a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. The result is the best wine they have ever made, or at least the finest I have ever tasted from them.
