A medium bodied Bordeau rouge with smoky liquorice, dark fruits and earthy spice. This will certainly be mature now and ready to drink!
There is evidence of vine growing on the estate from the 12th century, but the modern name is associated with an incredibly successful Scottish wine merchant named John Lewis Brown who came to live in Bordeaux in 1795. He was passionate about wine and art, enthusiasm he passed on to his grandson of the same name. The work of the younger John Lewis Brown can be found in many famous galleries in Europe and in Chateau Cantenac Brown.
In the late 19th century, Chateau Brown was considered among the finest wine estates in Bordeaux, but sadly saw decline which was not reverted until modern times... In 1994 the estate was bought by Bernard Barthe and experienced a renaissance which brought up to date winemaking facilities and considerable investments in the vineyards.
The vineyard of Chateau Brown covers 29 hectares, 24.5 hectares of which are devoted to red grapes, 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot, and 4.5 hectares for white grapes, 70% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Semillon.
A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and the rest Petit Verdot, this is a beautiful wine from Château Brown (one of the best I have tasted). The color is still a dense opaque plum/garnet/purple, and the wine displays smoke, spice, earth, licorice and loads of black fruits. Medium to full-bodied, pure, ripe and layered, this sleeper of the vintage should drink well for another 15 years.
A charming Pessac-Leognan with smoke, dark cherries, cassis and earthy scents. Medium/full bodied with soft textures, the wine finishes with round, spicy plum sensations. This is already drinking well. This will not make old bones. I'd drink it over the next 5-8 years.
Restrained, a little fragrant, dusty and slightly leafy dark fruit. More depth on the palate than expected. Very fresh and fruit still fresh. Tannins still gripping but smooth and chocolate textured. Juicy and finely balanced. Good length.

The conditions at this old munitions base, 100 metres below ground are unrivalled, offering temperature control, In Bond facility and full replacement value insurance. The wines are stored under each client's individual "Protection Plus" account number, fully labelled and can only be released or moved with his or her written instructions. No right of lien can be exercised over wines held on each client's behalf. Client's stock can be inspected, by arrangement, at any time excluding November & December.
