Chateau Peyrabon has been recently modernised and is one of the finest Cru Bourgeois. Situated right on the Pauillac border, the gravelly soil gives the Cabernet Sauvignon dominated wines that earthy cedary hallmark which Bordeaux winelovers cherish.
The Peyrabon has good definition on the nose with black cherries, cassis and a touch of blueberry. The palate is medium-bodied, chewy on the entry but cohesive, very good weight with blackberry and blueberry fruit, but needing to develop a little more definition towards the finish. Fine. Tasted April 2011.
This very reliable estate made their 2010 from a blend of 59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and the rest small quantities of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Some roasted herbs, damp earth, interwoven with red and black currants, cherries and spice box are all present in this classic Bordeaux, which exhibits medium body, good density and plenty of balance and elegance. Drink it over the next 7-8 years.
