Chateau Latour is on the St Julien/Pauillac border and adjacent to Chateau Leoville Lascases. The generosity and heavenly balance of St Julien is combined with power and strength here to create what is for some, the finest vineyard in Bordeaux.

2008 was a really great year for growing grapes. The perfectly ripened fruit gave way to a classically styled Pauillac, concentrated and generous, yet elegant with all its facets in perfect harmony. This is a really fine wine.

Information About Chateau Latour

The location of Chateau Latour has history dating back to 1331 where allegedly a fortress was built. This tower inspired the estate's branding but, the edifice was destroyed in the fifteenth century. In the early eighteenth century the estate entered the hands of the Segur family, who would also own what would become Mouton Rothschild and Calon Segur. Chateau Latour would remain in the Segur family until 1964. In recent times, the Chateau is owned by François Pinault and managed by Frederic Engerer who have decided to stop selling Chateau Latour En Primeur. The 2012 vintage of Chateau Latour is expected to go on sale in 2022 when the wine will be appreciated more.

Chateau Latour has 78 hectares planted with vines of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

High toned, even slightly acetic. Mature Cabernet grapes. Lovely spread across the palate. Not a hint of underripeness. Very flattering richness on the palate. Very complete even if a little dusty on the finish.

Rating : 18/20

2008 Latour is powerful, full bodied and concentrated with ripe cassis, tobacco, truffle, slate, and black plum aromatics. The wine covers your palate with waves of dark berries and ripe, round, polished tannins. The long, pure, fresh finish remains in your mouth for over forty five seconds!

Rating : 97/100

Saturated ruby-red. Subdued but wonderfully pure nose hints at black cherry, graphite, tobacco, licorice, black olive and crushed stone. Lush, sweet and deep, with terrific energy and early sex appeal to the dark berry, spice and vanilla flavors. The sweetness builds on the very long aftertaste, where the solid tannins are in perfect harmony with the wine's fruit. Leaves a black cherry perfume in the retronasal passage. Likely to be one of the vintage's longest-lived examples.

Rating : 94+/100

An extraordinary wine, the classic 2008 Latour (13.5% natural alcohol) is composed of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc (40% of the production made it into the grand vin). Its dense purple color is followed by hints of espresso roast, cassis, burning embers, truffles and graphite. Rich with full-bodied power, beautiful purity and graciousness allied to a voluminous, savory, broad mouthfeel, this beauty will be drinkable in 4-5 years and will keep for three decades.

Rating : 95+/100
