Château Caronne Ste-Gemme is located in the municipality of St Laurent Medoc, on the left bank of Bordeaux. Emile Borie purchased the Chateau in 1900, it was passed down to his grandson Jean Nony-Borie who has directed the property since 1943 with his nephew François Nony. This is quite a big  property over 150 hectares with gravelley soils. The varietals are divided between 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot with a relatively high planting density of 10 000 plants per hectare. The work in the vineyard is traditional, the vines are trellised and plowed and the harvest is carried out almost entirely by hand.
Information About Chateau Caronne Ste Gemme

Extraordinary value for money has made Caronne Ste Gemme a very popular and reliable claret in the UK for many years. Situated on the border of the 'terroir-classique' Saint Julien, with Over 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, the balance of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, it is a wine which ideally needs several years in bottle for the earthy slightly rustic characteristics to mellow into its mature silky fragrant style.

30% Merlot, 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot. Dark crimson. Concentrated and meaty but not (unlike Cambon La Pelouse just tasted) exaggerated. Sweet, opulent palate entry. Very smooth but dense too. The tannins make their presence felt only on the finish. Very nicely made. Lovely liqueur but dry and classically built. Refreshing finish. Bravo!

Supple tannins and attractive camphor, mulberry, black currant and dusty, earthy notes are present in this full-bodied, legitimate sleeper of the vintage. The purity, texture, pure charm and depth of this wine are impressive. Drink it over the next 10-15 years.

This beauty from proprietor Francois Nony is a two-thirds blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest mostly Merlot with a touch of Petit Verdot. A member of the Alliance des Cru Bourgeois du Medoc.

Tasted at the Crus Bourgeois 2010 tasting in London. The Caronne Ste Gemme has a reserved, leafy bouquet with strong but attractive undergrowth aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with dry tannins. There is good grip and structure; plenty of tarry black fruit and a solid, graphite tinged finish. Surly at the moment, so leave this fine cru bourgeois for a couple more years. This is a fine wine from this estate. Drink 2014-2020. Tasted September 2012.

Lush but lifted blackberry nose, with a hint of menthol, Cabernet black fruits and earth. Medium-bodied, silky, fine acidity, an elegant rather than massive style, with a clean, almost tangy finish.
